Maybe there are a lot more JCs on my server than Smolderthorn, or maybe no one else cuts and sells massive amounts of gems, but the prices on gems on my server seem to almost always decrease until Monday night, after which a lot of them expire and get reset to decent levels. I never really list above the lowest listed price unless it is extremely below where it should be, but maybe I am missing out on some gold making potential… It just seems that any time i have listed a gem higher than the lowest price, I check back later and have been undercut 10 or more times…

You could be. The basic thought here is that somebody will buy up the cheapest cuts so fast few will get to see them. With the cheapies out of the way, then yours can sell at a better price. With all the undercutting going on I’m going to guess that you’re posting a popular skillup gem or at least one that’s oversupplied. See what you can do to identify a sellable cut that’s under-supplied at the moment.
That can be a moving target, though, so just keep your eyes on it. At the very least there’ll be some relief as everybody regems for their 2nd sets (wonder how bag prices will increase), but don’t get complacent about finding the next best thing.

@Sparks
I understand the principle, it just doesn’t seem to work on my server. There are a couple of people on my server that must play 16 hours a day or something, and all they do is mine their own ore to prospect, cut and list. There was one guy in particular that drove the price of scarlet rubies from around 180 down to 80 or 90 for about a month straight (this was only a month or two after the expansion hit.) I have no idea how or why he did it, but his auctions would expire, people would start listing at higher, closer to what the item was worth prices again, and he’d have 20 more of each cut up again within an hour or two. Was rather infuriating :/
He did this with all gems, pretty much all useful cuts. It made no sense to me or my wife.

@Hab – Higher prices don’t mean the highest prices, just like lower prices don’t mean lowest.
@Erk – Gold is no substitute for IQ, I guess.
